It has been far too long since I posted anything, so I thought I would return with a poem. This is one I wrote a while ago, but it is still one of my favourites. I wrote it following the death of my Nan, so it’s partly a reminder of her.
The sun retreated,
and the shadows of night
tore them asunder.
They trembled,
the last lonely touch of fingertips
screamed in yearning
in a moment they knew
could not last.
And then they were no more –
only two separate figures
in the vastness of the dark.
The night is long,
for both of them;
the vast unknown
scares and disorientates.
They follow different paths,
searching for one another
in the darkness.
The golden shafts of the rising sun
will pierce the blanket of loneliness;
and their shadows,
which stretch out before them,
shall crawl closer and closer
and meet
in a supreme moment of triumph.
They will be together again
in the rising sun,
which shall set
no more.
