Hello and welcome to my blog. The purpose of this introduction is to outline the types of things you can expect to be covered within these pages. If you’d like to find out more about me then just click on the About link.
The primary purpose of this blog, other than allowing me somewhere to express my thoughts and feelings on a range of topics, is to provide students of English and fellow educators somewhere else to go for a range of ideas, resources and links.
I envisage this site running along a few different lines. Literature is my main interest, and in my teaching of literary texts – especially those at GCSE and A Level – I often have thoughts or reactions that don’t find their way out in any meaningful form. Hopefully this site will allow me the chance to express these, building up a range of posts about different texts as I go.
I also find modern use of language fascinating, particularly that used by the media, the government and other such bodies. Again, the hope is that this site will enable me to explore some of these ideas in a purposeful way, enabling those of you who are interested to see how the subject has real-world applications beyond the study of fiction.
There will also be a section related to teaching and education, both in terms of English as a subject and education in its broader sense, which I hope other teachers will find interesting as well as informative.
Finally, there will be a personal section in which I will put reviews of theatre productions, films, books, critical guides etc. to provide some thoughts for those who are interested. Please remember that these are my own personal views, and I will aim to retain as much critical distance as I can.
As I am also an interested writer, the odd poem or literary extract of my own may make its way onto the page. Please feel free to comment on and critique these.
I will not make any promises regarding regularity of posts and updates, but rest assured that things will continue to tick over. And please do feel free to look me up on various social media sites or to contact me via email if you have any questions or topics you would like me to write about.
